Thee major telecom network providers Viettel, VinaPhone and MobiFone started testing mobile number portability (MNP) on Thursday, which allows subscribers to keep existing mobile number when switching networks.
The Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC) has ordered mobile network providers to intensify the confiscation of pre-activated SIM cards in order to reduce spam text messages.
Major mobile network operator Mobifone has been detached from the
state-owned Viet Nam Posts and Telecommunications (VNPT), and was under
the management of the Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC).
Mobile network providers are awaiting a decision from the Ministry of
Information and Communications on when to raise fees for their 3G
internet connection service.
Late last week, Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung asked the
Ministry of Information and Communications to look into possible
regulations restricting free call and messaging apps (chat apps) in an
attempt to level the playing field for Vietnamese telecoms companies.
